That's One Great Pacifier

Thomas still loves his pacifier dearly. He is only allowed to have his "Paci" at naptime and bedtime. He has to leave his Paci upstairs in his bed. Seth and I think he is too old for a pacifier (which is highlighted by how big he seems now that Elisabeth is here). We are considering cutting him off cold-- and I imagine that will be really rough for everyone. This past week we visited friends in Washington. By the end of the week, Thomas was getting away with more Paci time. This morning, he came downstairs with his Paci. I took the Paci away. He begged for it back. I decided to try to talk to him about why he wanted his Paci.

Momma: "Thomas, can you tell me why you want your paci right now?"
Thomas: "BECUUUUUUZZZZZZ... I LOVE JESUS...
(quieter voice) ...and my Paci."

Jonathan's 1st Lost Tooth

Jonathan lost his 1st tooth on Easter night. He had been wiggling the tooth for weeks. The permanent tooth had already started coming in behind the loose tooth. On Easter, our friend Martin (aka "Uncle Martin") pulled Jonathan's tooth. Jonathan was nervous beforehand. He said it hurt when it was pulled. Yet, he is really, really proud of loosing his first tooth. Tonight we got to see some WA friends that we haven't seen in some time. After they all left Jonathan complained that he only got to tell 1 person about his tooth.
Here are some cute pictures of Jonathan after he lost his tooth.

Elisabeth is the Best

Last night after I told Jonathan that Elisabeth was 4 months old he wanted to hold her. He sat on the couch for a long time holding her, smiling at her and talking to her. When he was done he made up a song for her. When he was getting ready for bed he told me that I should get some paper and write it down. Of course, I had already been working hard to commit his lyrics to memory. I went and got the digital camera and said we could video him singing his song for Elisabeth. I started the video and then stopped it and asked Jonathan what he was singing. It was different than before. He said that he was making up a new song for her.

Here are the words to the 1st song:
Rock-a-bye little princess.
Elisabeth, is the best
Rock-a-bye little princess.
Elisabeth is better than an angel.
Rock-a-bye little princess.
Elisabeth is better than anything else.

The 2nd song totally cracks me up. Jonathan sings that Elisabeth is better than Iraq and better than the Iraq war. She is better than Daddy working late and better than Daddy coming home early. There is more to it but I think you can understand the rest of the words.
Here is the 2nd song:

By the way- I tried to imagine what prompted him to say something about Iraq. When he was composing the first song he said something about Elisabeth being better than when the good guys beat the bad guys. I imagine that is where the war idea came from. Too funny, huh? Our sweet, sweet baby girl is better than the Iraq war!

What will the Boys think of Next?

DAVID

[Momma] "David! Don't hit him."
[David] "I DIDN'T hit him. I PUNCHED him."

JONATHAN

[Jonathan] "Momma, when are your boobs going to get smaller?
[Momma] "What?"
[Jonathan] "When are your boobs going to get back to the normal size?
[Momma] "What do you mean 'normal size'? Boobs can be all different sizes. Some are smaller and some are bigger. (Thinking: Am I really saying this?)
[Jonathan] "Well, when are your boobs going to get smaller?

Video Games vs. Dad

Jonathan was given a Ninetendo DS for Christmas. It is an understatement to say he loves it! He seems to wake up and go to bed thinking about playing his video games. We have trouble regulating his video game playing in a positive way. Sometime not long after Jonathan got the Ninetendo (this was given to him by our family and not something we had planned on), Seth dug out his old Game Boy Advance and gave it to David. Both boys have trouble having a good attitude when it is time to turn off the games. As parents, we are not appreciated in our quest for limited "screen time."

I was extremely surprised today when I was reviewing some of Jonathan's school work and I found he wrote the following sentences (on a sheet where they were working on Pronouns).

"Jonathan is a boy. He likes video games."
"Jonathan likes video games. He likes his dad more."

We don't see this attitude when it is time to turn off the games. However, it is refreshing to know that it is there and it is a huge compliment to dad!
