If David was Cooking the Turkey...

At preschool, the kids were asked how they would cook a Turkey for Thanksgiving dinner.

David said:

"I am cooking a 5 pound turkey for 6 hours at 55 temperature. I will feed my whole family. I don't think I have salt at my home. I want salt and cheese on my turkey. If I have salt."

He gets it

Jonathan and I have great Truck Talks. Each morning I take him for the 7 minutes ride to school and talk about random things... you know, whatever comes up. I don't remember what day it was, but he really surprised me one day.

Dad: Jonathan, do you remember why we celebrate Christmas?
Jonathan: Uh huh. Because Jesus was born.
Dad: Right... and what abot the presents?
Jonathan: ummm, I guess it's like two different things. The presents aren't part of the real Christmas.
Dad: Well, you could think of it like the gifts the wise men brought Jesus.
Jonathan (after a thoughtful pause): Dad? I think God's not very happy with whoever invented giving a lot of presents for Christmas. It makes people forget about Jesus.

I couldn't have said it better.

Our Princess is One

I got the sweetest idea from my friend Jill. She took pictures of her daughter in her wedding dress on her 1st birthday. She took them again recently when her daughter turned two. They were absolutely precious. I was inspired. I was also very excited because I heard about the idea before Elisabeth's birthday.

I called my mom and asked her to bring my wedding dress with her when she flew out to visit. We had so much fun taking pictures of Elisabeth in my dress! She was a princess.

I took a ton of photos. No really, I took a ton... so after posting 4 on my other blog, I posted more here. Be sure to check out the ones at Gravity of Motion, too.

Note to my boys: Use the bathroom at night, too!

When I checked on the boys tonight, I discovered that Thomas forgot to use the bathroom. I had planned to take Thomas to the bathroom. He was soaked. He was sound asleep. I went and got Seth to help me: I figured I would redress Thomas and comfort him while Seth changed the sheets. As I was working on comforting Thomas (he did not want to give up his soaked Thomas the Train PJs), Seth tells me his bed is dry. My first thought: "How is that possible?" My second thought: "Uh Oh." Sure enough, as I walked back in his room, I stepped on cold, squishy carpet (yuck). Thomas must have gotten up, walked to the door of his room, peed and then gotten back in bed. I am not sure if it is good or bad that he forgot to pull down his pants before he peed. Obviously, he has not mastered the art of "sleep peeing" yet like his big brother Jonathan (see sleep peeing and bath toys).

Veteran's Day

I spent time yesterday explaining Veteran's Day to the boys. They wanted to know how we were going to celebrate. We talked about how to make Daddy feel special. Jonathan wanted to make Daddy something. The boys all decided to make him cards. Since it was late in the day, Daddy came home when they were finishing their cards. So, he sneaked to another room to watch TV until they were done. When they were ready Jonathan wanted to guide Daddy out of his room. Daddy was such a good sport! He blindfolded himself and let Jonathan lead him into the family room. The boys were so excited. Thomas "hid" his picture on the refrigerator.

Seth post: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Church

I grew boobs.

While I was holding Thomas this morning he snickered pretty hard. I asked him what he was laughing at and his response caught me a little off guard.

Daddy: Thomas, what are you laughing at?
Thomas: hehehehe... (whispering) you have boobies.
Daddy: pause
Daddy: pause

Daddy: ummmm... what?!?!
Thomas: heheh (still whispering and laughing) you... (pokes left pectoral muscle) have.... (pokes right pectoral muscle) BOOBIES!!!

They used to be muscles.

Sunday Snapshots

Thomas was playing his harmonica and watching NFL football this afternoon. He works hard at everything he does! He fell asleep on the couch.
